(ANI) Twisha Sharma Death Case: The investigation into the death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma at her matrimonial home in Bhopal took a dramatic turn after her mother-in-law made a series of allegations related to Twisha’s mental health, alleged drug use, and family background. Twisha was found hanging at her husband Samarth Singh’s house in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, just months after their marriage in December 2025. Her family has accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment and murder. Mother-In-Law Makes Shocking Claims Giribala Singh, who’s a retired judge, claimed that Twisha had been undergoing psychiatric counselling, consumed “large quantities" of marijuana during pregnancy, and that her parents stayed away for months. While addressing a press conference on Monday, Singh alleged that Twisha had been undergoing psychiatric counselling and was prescribed medicines “given to a schizophrenic patient". She further alleged that Twisha consumed “large quantities of marijuana during pregnancy" and showed withdrawal symptoms, including trembling hands. “She went for psychiatric counselling also, and medicines were prescribed to her, which are given to a schizophrenic patient… She would remain stable for a day or so, but then again, there would be a slight change in her condition. We observed some physical symptoms, a slight trembling in her hands, which is typical of withdrawal symptoms… She destroyed everything…" Singh said while addressing the press. #WATCH | Bhopal, MP | Twisha Sharma death case | Mother-in-law of the victim and retired judge Giribala Singh says, “It’s a profound loss for us because, whatever the circumstances, she was a part of our family… She went for psychiatric counselling also, and medicines were… pic.twitter.com/0dWduamFGI— ANI (@ANI) May 18, 2026 Twisha Regretted MTP Procedure The retired judge further said that Twisha had undergone a Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) procedure earlier this month and had later expressed regret over it Speaking on the events leading up to the incident, Singh claimed that Twisha had expressed regret after starting the MTP process.
“When she started the first course of the MTP, she said she wanted to reverse this, which I knew was not possible. She didn’t let us feel that fleeting moment of joy. It is truly heartbreaking; young girls often take this drastic step," Singh said. She further provided a timeline of the medical procedure, stating, “On 7th May, she must have taken the pill; she completed the entire MTP procedure, and we had to support her." Allegations Against Twisha’s Parents Twisha’s mother-in-law also levelled serious allegations against Twisha’s parents, questioning their absence and the father’s professional background. She accused Twisha’s parents of neglecting their daughter and exploiting her financially. “Twisha’s parents never came to see her during the last five months. They were earning because of her looks and are now not allowing her cremation," she alleged. Twisha’s Family Alleges Dowry Harassment Meanwhile, Twisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma maintained that his daughter was mentally harassed and faced emotional abuse, humiliation and pressure after marriage. Speaking to NDTV, he said dowry demands were never made directly but were allegedly conveyed through expectations and taunts.
“Look, in today’s time, dowry is such a word that people demand in various ways without using it. They create a situation in which money is taken out of your pocket. No one says ‘Give me dowry’," he was quoted as saying. According to him, tensions escalated after Twisha lost her job. “After Twisha lost her job, their taunts started: ‘How will we feed you?’ All these things came out," he alleged. Navnidhi Sharma also claimed troubling signs had emerged early in the marriage itself. Recalling an incident from the honeymoon, he alleged Samarth displayed violent behaviour at an airport, after which Twisha reportedly asked her brother whether she had made “a wrong decision". Describing Samarth as “a wolf in sheep’s clothing", he further alleged that the accused family had a history of harassment and claimed assurances given before the marriage “did not materialise". What’s The Case? Twisha Sharma (33), a resident of Noida, married Bhopal resident Samarth Singh in December 2025. Sharma was a 33-year-old MBA graduate from Noida who had worked in marketing and communications. She had also participated in beauty pageants, was a former Miss Pune and had appeared in the Telugu film Mugguru Monagallu. Twisha was discovered hanging at her husband’s house in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12. Her family has alleged mental torture and dowry harassment by her in-laws. Police have registered a case against the husband and his mother, Giribala Singh, and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident. Notably, Giribala Singh was granted anticipatory bail earlier in the matter, while Samarth Singh’s plea was denied. Meanwhile, a reward of Rs 10,000 has been announced for information leading to the arrest of the prime accused, Samarth Singh, who is absconding. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rajneesh Kashyap Kaul said authorities have taken steps to prevent the accused from fleeing the country, including sending correspondence to the passport office.
Six teams are actively engaged in the investigation. Police officials said the preliminary post-mortem report points to death by hanging, though Twisha’s family has demanded a second post-mortem at AIIMS Delhi, alleging inconsistencies in the investigation.
