(X/@StepUpSchool2) Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh wrote a new chapter on the 12th International Day of Yoga, as large-scale yoga activities were held across schools in the state. Extensive preparations were made to connect around 1.42 crore students studying in 1.32 lakh Parishadiya Vidyalayas, along with more than 78,000 girls studying in 746 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas, with yoga. On Sunday, June 21, collective yoga sessions were held in schools across the state, with participation from students, teachers, Shiksha Mitras, instructors and parents.
Director of Education (Basic) Anil Bhushan Chaturvedi was designated as the nodal officer for monitoring and coordination of the programmes. The state government’s effort to promote Yoga as a mass movement and a foundation of a healthy lifestyle was reflected in the statewide observance, with school campuses from rural to urban areas witnessing active participation. Under the guidance of the Chief Minister, the Basic Education Department had completed all preparations for the successful observance of International Yoga Day on June 21. In line with directions from the Ministry of AYUSH and the Ministry of Education, Government of India, guidelines had been issued to Divisional Assistant Directors of Education, District Basic Education Officers and Block Education Officers across the state. The department stated that Yoga Day was not only observed as a formal event but was aimed at encouraging long-term healthy habits and a positive lifestyle among students.
According to instructions, collective yoga practice, pranayama sessions and awareness programmes highlighting the importance of yoga were organised in schools on June 21. Students were made aware of the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of yoga, while participation of parents and local communities was also ensured to expand outreach. Under the leadership of CM Yogi, Uttar Pradesh continued efforts to integrate yoga into school life and public health initiatives, strengthening discipline, concentration, health and positive thinking among students. The large-scale observance further reinforced the global identity of yoga and the goal of building a healthier and more confident younger generation.
