Students across India, including in Chennai and Bengaluru, arrived at examination centres for the NEET retest amid strict security measures. At Chennai's New College, candidates underwent rigorous frisking and document verification, with strict rules prohibiting jewellery and hairpins. Despite the intense heat, parents accompanying the students were forced to wait on pavements as no special seating arrangements were provided at the venue.
The examination, which runs from 2 PM to 5:15 PM, saw gates closing promptly at 1:30 PM. In Bengaluru, security was further tightened with the installation of CCTV cameras and jammers near classrooms to prevent any malpractice. The NEET examination remains a highly sensitive political issue in Tamil Nadu, where over 1.42 lakh students are participating across 31 districts, following the recent deaths of two aspirants.
Meanwhile, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed confidence in the Testing Agency and extended his best wishes to the 22 lakh students appearing for the examination nationwide.
