The Indian Navy has commissioned three indigenously built warships—INS Agray, INS Dunagiri, and INS Sanshodhak—at the naval dockyard in Kolkata. The commissioning ceremony, which coincides with World Hydrography Day, marks a significant milestone in India's pursuit of self-reliance in the defence sector. The addition of these advanced vessels, including the highly sophisticated hydrographic ship INS Sanshodhak, enhances the nation's maritime strength, strategic influence, and economic prosperity.
Designed and constructed entirely in India, these warships reflect the exceptional skills of Indian engineers and workers. The maritime sector is increasingly viewed as a vital engine for employment generation, with over 200 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises contributing to the construction of these three ships. With more than forty made-in-India warships and submarines inducted in recent years and forty-five additional platforms currently under construction, the country is rapidly transitioning from a defence importer to a major manufacturing hub, strengthening its industrial capacity and securing its maritime borders.
