A 36 year old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the attacks. According to the police cited by The Guardian, the incidents took place at multiple locations across the city on Friday evening, including Sighthill, Telford Road and Leith Walk.

Some of the victims were reportedly returning from prayers at the Broomhouse Mosque when they were attacked. Three of the five injured men required hospital treatment, though none suffered life threatening injuries. Videos circulating on social media showed a shirtless man carrying a large bladed weapon and being restrained by police officers. Witnesses also recorded the suspect shouting, “I’m protecting the country" as he was taken into custody.
