Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the International Yoga Day celebrations at Red Road in Kolkata, where he interacted with attendees and corrected the postures of participants. The event marked the first time the main Yoga Day program was organized in Kolkata, drawing large crowds, including school students. Across the country, leaders and officials participated in the celebrations, promoting the theme of yoga for healthy aging.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla performed various asanas. Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Amarpreet Singh, also joined the event. The broadcast highlighted yoga's role as India's soft power and its contribution to global health and peace since gaining international recognition in 2014.
Additional events, including a drone show at Millennium Park and marathons, were organized by the West Bengal government and the central government over the week.
