Massive crowds gathered at Red Road in Kolkata for a historic International Yoga Day celebration, marking the first time the event has been held at such a grand scale in West Bengal in fifteen years. Thousands of enthusiastic participants, including women, youth, and children, lined up hours in advance to perform traditional yoga postures, awaiting the arrival of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of West Bengal.
The event's theme focused on healthy ageing, with young children from Diamond Harbour demonstrating incredible balance and inspiring older generations. Meanwhile, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police showcased their remarkable fitness by organising a dedicated yoga session at the Lukung Post on the banks of Pangong Lake, promoting health and harmony in extreme conditions. In the studio, a yoga expert highlighted the profound mental health benefits of the practice, explaining how breathwork and movement can alleviate anxiety and depression.
The expert also demonstrated the Surya Namaskar, emphasising its ability to restore bodily balance and ground the mind.
