News18 Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the 12th annual International Day of Yoga celebrations from Red Road in central Kolkata. Around 35,000 participants are expected to join the Prime Minister in performing the Common Yoga Protocol, while nearly one million people are likely to take part in synchronised yoga sessions across Kolkata. Centered on the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing," this year’s observance seeks to spotlight yoga as a means to improve overall well-being by promoting physical vitality, psychological wellness, emotional resilience, and an active lifestyle in later years.
PM Modi Addresses Gathering In Kolkata Addressing the International Day of Yoga celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Yoga day has become world biggest festival, visuals are coming from different parts of world," adding, “Yoga unites us, I congratulate everyone on Yog Diwas." Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Kolkata for its ‘Swachhta Se Swagat’ initiative, saying, “I congratulate Kolkata for their Swachta se Swagat initiative..this is inspiration for everyone." He said that the spirit of yoga had engulfed the entire country, stating, “In India, from the Himalayas to the Indian Ocean, from the Northeast and Bengal in the east to Saurashtra in the west, the entire country seems to be filled with the energy of yoga." Politicians Celebrate Yoga Day Ministers and other political leaders are also celebrating Yoga Day across the country.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, among other leaders also took part in yoga programs on the occasion. West Bengal Minister Jagannath Chattopadhyay welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s participation in the International Day of Yoga celebrations in Kolkata, saying, “We are fortunate that Prime Minister sir is coming here and will be practising yoga collectively on the red road." He added, “People of Bengal have given us the mandate, and the new government is grandly celebrating Yoga Day."
