Vice President JD Vance is en route to Switzerland for peace talks, signaling renewed efforts to preserve an agreement signed earlier this week by President Trump after Iranian security officials announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The announcement by Hazrat Khatam al-Anbiya, Iran’s joint military command, came as fighting between Israel and Hezbollah reignited in Lebanon on Saturday, just hours after the two sides had agreed to a renewed ceasefire.
Iranian leaders said the decision to close the strait was prompted by what they described as the United States’ failure to halt the fighting in Lebanon. LiveNOW’s Alexandra Goldberg is joined by Reuters reporter Phil Stewart to break down the latest developments.
