‘Revanth Reddy Will Become Suvendu Adhikari’: BJP MP’s Remark Triggers Speculation Published By, Last Updated: May 19, 2026, 11:19 IST Comparing Reddy with Suvendu Adhikari, Arvind said the Bengal leader had crossed over to the BJP and later emerged as one of Mamata Banerjee’s fiercest political rivals. Rapid Read PM Modi and Telangana CM Revanth Reddy shared a light moment in Hyderabad. (ANI) BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind on Monday sparked political speculation in Telangana by suggesting that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy could eventually leave the Congress and join the BJP, drawing parallels with West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s switch from the Trinamool Congress in 2020. The Nizamabad MP alleged that the Congress leadership erred in appointing Revanth Reddy as chief minister while overlooking senior leaders who had spent decades in the party.
Comparing Reddy with Suvendu Adhikari, Arvind said the Bengal leader had crossed over to the BJP and later emerged as one of Mamata Banerjee’s fiercest political rivals. Predicting a major setback for the Congress in Telangana, Arvind said, “Congress will face an unprecedented defeat in 2028-29 here in Telangana. They lost badly in 1985 and in 1994. In 2028-29, under the leadership of Revanth Reddy, the Congress party is going to face a disastrous defeat." The BJP MP’s remarks came days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a comment directed at Revanth Reddy during a public programme in Hyderabad. Addressing the Telangana Chief Minister from the stage, PM Modi had said, “Aap jahan pahunchna chahte hain, nahi pahunch payenge… achha hai ki mere se hi judo" (You may not reach where you want to reach… you should join me").
Revanth Reddy, who was present on the stage during the event, responded with a smile. Referring to the Prime Minister’s remarks, Arvind said, “I don’t know what that means exactly, as I am just a ground-level worker in the BJP. I’m not sure if there is a political link there. I really don’t know if something is brewing, something similar to what Suvendu Adhikari did". He further claimed that Telangana politics would witness “high decibel politics" over the next two years and asserted that the BJP would eventually come to power in the state. Arvind’s comments are likely to trigger a political row ahead of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, with the BJP and the ruling Congress already engaged in a sharp political battle in the state.
