Tournament debutants Cape Verde delivered one of the biggest surprises by holding favourites Spain to a scoreless draw. Elsewhere, Australia and Scotland recorded victories over Turkiye and Haiti respectively, while DR Congo earned a notable result by forcing Portugal to share the points.
