A severe heatwave continues to impact northern regions, including Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. At Chandigarh's iconic Sukhna Lake, the rising temperatures have left the usually bustling tourist and pedestrian spots completely deserted. Despite morning temperatures hovering around 36 degrees Celsius and a slight breeze, boating activities and morning walks have seen a massive drop in participation.
The intense heat makes standing in the sun a difficult task, severely hitting local tourism. In response to the extreme weather conditions, the Punjab government has announced a change in government office timings. Starting Monday, offices will operate from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM. This measure aims to provide relief to the public from the intense heatwave and reduce the heavy electricity load in the state.
