(Local18) Extensive development work at six major ashrams on the 84-Kosi Parikrama Route has been completed to improve facilities for devotees visiting Ayodhya. Under an initiative of the Tourism Department, the ashrams have been equipped with modern amenities at a cost of Rs 20.64 crore. The project covered Shravan Kumar Ashram, Astik Ashram, Rishi Chyavan Ashram, Medha Rishi Ashram, Shri Bandhu Baba Ashram and Maharshi Bamdev Ashram. Construction work included rest houses, toilets, drinking water facilities, food stalls, pillars, entrance gates, signages and seating interpretation walls.
The work was carried out by Uttar Pradesh Projects Corporation Limited (UPPCL) and began on May 30, 2023. Manoj Sharma, Project Manager of UP Projects Corporation Limited in Ayodhya, said the project had been successfully completed. Pilgrims To Get Improved Facilities According to the Tourism Department, the project aims to provide better accommodation, food and drinking water facilities to pilgrims travelling along the 84-Kosi Parikrama Route. Devotees will have access to rest facilities, clean toilets, safe drinking water and local food at these ashrams. Interpretation walls have also been developed to help visitors learn about the religious and historical significance of the sites. Push For Religious Tourism Officials said the development work is expected to provide a boost to religious tourism in Ayodhya. The city already attracts devotees from India and abroad because of sites such as the Ram Mandir, Hanuman Garhi and Naya Ghat.
The Tourism Department said the development of the 84-Kosi pilgrimage route would make these ashrams more attractive and provide pilgrims with opportunities to halt and rest during long journeys. Environment-Friendly Infrastructure Developed The newly developed structures include entrance gates, pillars, signages and seating arrangements. Food stalls have been set up to provide local and satvik meals, while toilet and drinking water facilities have been developed with an emphasis on cleanliness. According to the Tourism Department, the appearance of sites such as Maharshi Bamdev Ashram and Shravan Kumar Ashram has undergone a transformation with the addition of modern infrastructure. Officials said the project would also benefit the local economy by creating opportunities for shopkeepers, guides and local residents. The department said the development of the ashrams on the 84-Kosi Route is part of broader efforts to strengthen Ayodhya’s position as a religious, cultural and tourism hub.
