As per the schedule, he is set to meet PM Modi in Delhi followed by a bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, took to X and posted: “Secretary Marco Rubio has landed in Kolkata. This is his first trip to India.

The visit is expected to focus heavily on key areas of bilateral cooperation, including trade, energy security, and defence ties.
Ahead of the trip, Marco Rubio reiterated Washington’s interest in expanding energy cooperation with India, stating that the United States is ready to supply “as much energy" as India is prepared to purchase. Emphasising the economic dimension of the partnership, Rubio said the US wants to play a larger role in supporting India’s diversified energy needs. He also hinted at the possibility of cooperation involving Venezuelan crude supplies. His remarks came amid concerns over rising global fuel prices and growing shipping risks linked to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. Calling India a “great partner," Rubio said ties between the two democracies remain strong despite ongoing global uncertainties. He stressed the need to deepen collaboration across sectors and confirmed that he will also attend the upcoming Quad foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi during his visit.
