Rapid Read AI-generated image used for representation At least 59 people have been admitted to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi after allegedly consuming food from the same stall in a suspected case of food poisoning. Hospital authorities said all patients are in stable condition. The number of people seeking treatment has increased since Thursday. Speaking to ANI on Friday, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital Chief Medical Officer Madhuri Panahare said 11 patients had been admitted by 5:30 pm on Thursday.
The figure rose to 37 by Friday morning and later reached 59. “All are complaining of stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea. They all ate food from the same shop. The condition of those admitted yesterday is improving. All patients are stable," Panahare said. According to hospital officials, all the patients reported similar symptoms after eating food from the same establishment. Similar incidents of suspected food poisoning have been reported in other parts of the country in recent weeks. On June 17, around 15 children in Telangana’s Rajanna Sircilla district were hospitalised after allegedly consuming panipuri sold by a street vendor in a gated community in Thangallapally Mandal.
The children developed vomiting and diarrhoea soon after eating the snack and were taken to a civil hospital for treatment. Police detained the vendor and launched an investigation. Earlier this month, more than a dozen children in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district also fell ill due to suspected contaminated drinking water. Officials collected water samples from the area and started an inquiry. The affected children experienced symptoms such as vomiting, loose motions and abdominal pain, though their condition remained stable.
