Twisha, a resident of Noida, had married Bhopal-based lawyer Samarth Singh in December 2025. She died on May 12 at her marital home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. Her family has alleged dowry harassment, mental torture and foul play, while her in-laws have claimed she was struggling with mental health issues and had recently undergone a Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP). Police have registered a case against husband Samarth Singh and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh. An SIT has been formed to probe the matter, while Samarth Singh remains absconding. FAMILY ALLEGES HARASSMENT, DOWRY PRESSURE Twisha’s parents have repeatedly alleged that she was subjected to mental and physical harassment after her marriage. According to the family, she had expressed distress in messages sent shortly before her death. As cited in reports, the prosecution referred to WhatsApp messages allegedly sent by Twisha to her mother on May 9, including one saying, “Maa aap mujhe yaha se lene aa jao kal please," while another reportedly described her life as “narak" and claimed that her husband had stopped speaking to her.
The family has also alleged that Twisha was pressured into terminating her pregnancy. Court records referenced in reports further mention allegations that Samarth Singh questioned the paternity of her unborn child and repeatedly assaulted her. Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, has accused the family of being highly influential and capable of influencing the investigation and public narrative. “With a shattered heart, unbearable pain, and an unending sense of loss," Sharma said in a statement that his daughter was no longer alive “to defend herself against the continuous public attacks and narratives being circulated by the accused side." He further alleged that those against whom “serious questions are being raised" were continuing to publicly defend themselves while the grieving family was being subjected to trauma. QUESTIONS OVER POLICE ACTION AND BAIL Twisha’s family has also questioned the handling of the investigation, particularly the delay in FIR registration and the grant of anticipatory bail to Giribala Singh. Speaking to news agency ANI, Navnidhi Sharma said the police themselves had argued in court that the accused were influential and could tamper with evidence, and questioned how bail was granted despite those submissions. He also alleged that the family had difficulty getting the FIR registered and claimed they were not informed properly about the handling of Twisha’s body after her death. Twisha’s brother, Major Harshit Sharma, further alleged inconsistencies in the conduct of the accused family after the incident. During a press conference, he claimed that the first call to police had been made by Twisha’s family and not the in-laws. He also referred to a video that allegedly showed Giribala Singh “moving around very calmly" despite claims that the family was trying to save Twisha.
He questioned why the police station, allegedly located very close to the house, was not contacted immediately. Speaking to ANI, Singh said Twisha had been prescribed medicines “which are given to a schizophrenic patient" and alleged that her condition fluctuated frequently. She also claimed that Twisha showed “withdrawal symptoms," including trembling hands. Singh described Twisha’s death as a “profound loss" for the family and maintained that she had been a cherished member of the household. The mother-in-law also claimed that Twisha had undergone an MTP procedure shortly before her death. According to Singh, Twisha later expressed regret after beginning the process. “When she started the first course of the MTP, she said she wanted to reverse this," Singh alleged while adding that the family had supported her through the procedure. SHARP EXCHANGES BETWEEN BOTH FAMILIES Giribala Singh also levelled allegations against Twisha’s parents, claiming they had not visited her for several months and alleging that her father had a “strange personality." She further alleged that Twisha’s father, who worked in the pharmaceutical sector abroad, “could potentially be the source of many things." Twisha’s family strongly objected to these remarks.
Her mother, Rekha Sharma, said allegations were now being made against Twisha because “she is not alive." Meanwhile, Twisha’s friends and relatives have also staged protests, including at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, demanding a CBI inquiry and a second post-mortem at AIIMS Delhi. Protesters alleged irregularities in the first post-mortem conducted in Bhopal and demanded an independent review of medical records. SECOND POST-MORTEM DEMAND AND ONGOING PROBE A major point of dispute remains the circumstances surrounding Twisha’s death and the post-mortem findings. Twisha’s family has insisted on a second post-mortem examination, claiming that the existing medical evidence does not match the circumstances of the case. Navnidhi Sharma has demanded that the investigation be monitored by the Supreme Court and alleged that the family has little hope of justice within the existing system. Police officials have confirmed that the family submitted a request seeking a second post-mortem and said further action would depend on court directions. Authorities have also announced a Rs 10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Samarth Singh, while six police teams continue to search for him.
