Expired food items, spoiled vegetables, improperly stored cooked and frozen products, open dustbins and inadequate hygiene practices were among the violations detected by food safety teams of the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) during inspections at movie theatres operating inside malls across Hyderabad on Friday, June 19. At PVR Inox in Inorbit Mall, officials found expired sev and spoiled cauliflower, both of which were discarded immediately.
The inspection team also found poor housekeeping around the soft drink dispensing area and observed labelling discrepancies on certain food items. Cooked chicken tikka was found stored in a freezer. At Cinepolis in Lulu Mall, inspections found dustbins without lids and discarded boiled pasta that had been stored in a freezer. The total polar compounds (TPC) level of used cooking oil was recorded at 21.5.
Open frozen food products had not been sealed properly before storage, while the cola dispensing counter required improved housekeeping. At Inox in GSM Mall, Madeenaguda, the teams detected incomplete labelling on burger buns and sandwich bread. Dustbins at the coffee and sandwich counters were found uncovered. Chicken tikka used as an ingredient had been assigned a shelf life of three days without supporting technical records.
In addition, records pertaining to water quality testing for water used in beverage preparation and packaging material testing were not produced during the inspection.
