Congress government misusing civic sites for party offices: BJP MLC
BJP MLC D.S. Arun on Friday alleged that the State government was misusing civic amenities (CA) sites meant for community benefit to construct Congress party
BJP MLC D.S. Arun on Friday alleged that the State government was misusing civic amenities (CA) sites meant for community benefit to construct Congress party offices in violation of prescribed norms. Speaking at a press conference, Mr. Arun stated that civic amenity sites are granted to cultural organisations, hospitals and associations based on guidelines that account for their services to society. However, the government had deviated from this procedure for Congress offices, approving the allocation of sites valued at ₹1 crore for only ₹5 lakh—a five per cent of the value.
“Properties are being transferred to party offices at a fraction of their market value. The cabinet has approved this decision. I urge the public to recognise the gravity of this matter and challenge it through public interest litigation,” he said. Arun alleged that the State government proceeded with the allotment of civic amenities sites for Congress Bhavans despite the Karnataka High Court expressing serious reservations about such allocations.
Cross-voting in MLC election Commenting on reports of cross-voting in a recent MLC election, Mr. Arun described the practice as highly condemnable. He called on MLAs who voted against party direction to publicly account for their decision. “The MLAs should remember that they were elected on the BJP symbol. The party gave them a chance to contest, and going against the party direction is like betraying the mother,” he said.
Arun further stated that if MLAs had concerns about the party’s State leadership, they should raise them through proper internal channels rather than cross-voting.
