‘Students should become job creators, not just job seekers’
Sharnbasva University Vice-Chancellor Anilkumar Bidve has urged students to develop entrepreneurial skills and establish their own start-ups with small investments, enabling them to become job
Sharnbasva University Vice-Chancellor Anilkumar Bidve has urged students to develop entrepreneurial skills and establish their own start-ups with small investments, enabling them to become job providers rather than merely employment seekers. Addressing a placement drive organised on the university’s main campus on Friday, Prof. Bidve said there was no shortage of employment opportunities in the country. However, industries were finding it difficult to recruit suitably skilled candidates to fill available vacancies, he said, stressing that students should focus on acquiring industry-relevant skills while pursuing their academic programmes to meet the expectations of employers.
“The universities and institutions of higher education can only award degrees and certificates at the end of a course. Students must proactively utilise the opportunities available during their studies to enhance their skills and improve their employability,” he said. Educational institutions, he added, provide various avenues for skill development alongside formal education, and it is the responsibility of students to make the best use of them. Describing placement drives as an important phase in the life of every youngster, Prof. Bidve said students aspiring for careers must be prepared to face challenges and meet the demands of employers.
Hard work, dedication, and continuous learning, he noted, were essential for professional success. Sharing his own journey, he said he had begun his career as a lecturer in an engineering college under the Sharnbasva University system and had risen to the position of Vice-Chancellor through commitment, perseverance, and professional growth. He urged students to draw inspiration from such experiences and remain focused on their goals. In his inaugural address, Basavaraj Deshmukh, Secretary of the Sharnbasaveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangha, called upon students to cultivate leadership qualities and work towards becoming entrepreneurs. “You should aspire to become employers who create jobs for others instead of merely chasing jobs,” he said.
He also appreciated the university for organising the placement drive, which he said would provide valuable career opportunities to young graduates. Several leading companies, including Cadmax, Happy Minds AI, Tech SFT, Seek NEO, XNitra, MRF Tyres, and TVS Upasana, participated in the placement drive. University Director V.D. Mytri, Registrar Lakshmi Patil Maka, Registrar (Evaluation), S.H. Honnalli, Dean Shivakumar Jawaligi, Dean (Research) Sujata Mallapur, and representatives of the participating companies were present.
