Nita Ambani, the chairperson of Reliance Foundation, announced on Friday that the company is on track to develop a 130-acre Coastal Road Gardens in Mumbai, a major green space project envisioned as the city’s answer to iconic urban parks such as London’s Hyde Park or New York’s Central Park. “Last year, I shared with you a dream taking shape along Mumbai’s coastline – the Coastal Road Gardens. We now have a world-class team of landscape architects, ecologists, planners, and engineers who are working on the master plan design, one that brings global expertise while remaining uniquely and authentically Mumbai in spirit," she said at the 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) on Friday.

The gardens are envisioned to have more than 60,000 trees upon completion, shaping a new green lung for Mumbai. “In a city that never stops, the Gardens will serve as a pocket of stillness, peace, and serenity; as an invitation to heal and soak in fresh air," she said. “It will be a hub of flora and fauna with shaded walking and cycling paths, open maidans, public gyms, children’s play areas, and vibrant spaces for arts and culture." Nita Ambani said the Coastal Road Gardens would serve as a tribute to the spirit of Mumbai and a place for everyone to reconnect with nature, calling it an investment in the city’s long-term health. “What began as a corporate commitment has grown into one of our nation’s largest and most impactful institutions of social transformation," she remarked. She also announced several initiatives, including a university aimed at raising India’s global standing in higher education and a medical city to bring world-class healthcare to Mumbai. She also labelled sports as a key focus of Reliance Foundation. “Through our Education and Sports for All programme, we have reached more than 29 million young children and youth all over the country. When talent meets the right opportunity, extraordinary things happen," Nita Ambani said.
