Reliance Jio is making a major push into artificial intelligence. At Reliance Industries' 49th Annual General Meeting (Post-IPO), the telecom giant unveiled a range of AI-powered services designed to bring AI directly into the products and services that millions of Indians use every day. Among the key announcements were the Jio Call Agent, an AI assistant built into the Jio network, and a revamped MyJio app that is being transformed into a personalised AI-powered digital assistant. Read Full Story According to Jio, the idea behind the new AI-powered features is to move AI beyond standalone apps and make it a part of the services that millions of Indians already use every day. Jio Call Agent One of the biggest announcements this year was the Jio Call Agent, an AI assistant that works directly through the Jio network.
Unlike most AI services that require a separate app or platform, the Call Agent can be activated during a phone call simply by saying, "Hey Jio". According to the company, the AI assistant joins the conversation only with the user's consent and can remain on the call for as long as needed. The assistant is designed to support multiple Indian languages and offer a range of capabilities. For instance, it can transcribe conversations in real time and identify up to 10 different speakers during a conference call. The system can capture conversations in participants' preferred languages and generate transcripts automatically. The AI can also create summaries of calls, along with action points, reminders and follow-up tasks. These summaries can then be shared with participants after the call ends. In addition to note-taking, the Call Agent is designed to perform tasks on behalf of users.
During a call, users can ask it to book a cab, order food, reserve a restaurant table or schedule a meeting without switching between apps. The company said the service is expected to launch for Jio's more than 500 million users later this year. MyJio gets an AI-powered assistant In addition to the Call Agent, Jio also announced a major transformation of the MyJio app. Traditionally, users have relied on the app to recharge mobile plans, check account balances and manage services. Now Jio says it wants to turn it into what it calls a personalised AI advisor and relationship manager. With this new AI powered experience, users will no longer need to navigate through menus and settings. Instead, they will be able to describe what they want, and the AI assistant will handle the process.
