The Tamil Nadu assembly passed a unanimous resolution opposing the Mekedatu dam project in the neighbouring state, highlighting an ongoing water dispute. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister stated that protecting water resources is a basic right, a move supported by the state's Leader of the Opposition. Meanwhile, the Karnataka Chief Minister accused the neighbouring state of politicising the issue, maintaining that the project would benefit both regions.
In a separate political development, the ruling party in Karnataka secured all five seats in the recent legislative council elections, aided by cross-voting from eleven opposition legislators. The opposition party president is seeking a meeting with the national leadership to address the cross-voting incident. Additionally, a Telugu actor has been summoned by a court in Hyderabad to appear in person regarding a fatal stampede that occurred at a theatre during a movie screening.
The court has directed the actor and other accused individuals to appear for a hearing.
