A violent clash over a long-standing sand mining dispute in Chhattisgarh's Korba district resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including local BJP leader Bharat Singh, also known as Lalla Singh. The incident occurred on Tuesday night in Naugai village under the Sonhat police station area. According to the police, a rival faction led by Manoj Tripathi allegedly blocked the path of Bharat Singh's Fortuner vehicle. The SUV was rammed by a truck and subsequently set on fire.
Because the vehicle was locked, the occupants were trapped inside and engulfed by flames. Bharat Singh and Virendra Singh died on the spot, while Nagendra Singh succumbed to severe burn injuries during medical transport. The rivalry over sand mining supremacy between the two factions dates back to 2004. Police have registered an FIR naming nine individuals, with four arrested so far, while Manoj Tripathi and four others remain absconding. Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai expressed his condolences and assured strict punishment for the perpetrators, while the Congress party raised concerns regarding citizen safety.
