15 Years Of Service, A Violent End: Delhi Doctor Had Argued With Wife Over Firing Househelp Published By, Last Updated: June 19, 2026, 12:25 IST While initial reports suggested that the crime may have been linked to suspicions of black magic, police later said there was no evidence supporting those claims. Rapid Read Investigators suspect the disagreement may have left Gupta feeling sidelined within the family. (X) Days after the brutal killing of a domestic help in Delhi’s upscale Mount Kailash area sent shockwaves across the city, investigators revealed that the accused dermatologist had recently clashed with his wife over removing the househelp from their home. According to police, the accused Manish Gupta allegedly beat the deceased, Meena, who had been employed by the family for nearly 15 years, with a cricket bat before attacking her with a knife at his southeast Delhi residence on Thursday morning. While initial reports suggested that the crime may have been linked to suspicions of black magic or “negative energy", police later said there was no evidence supporting those claims. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari told NDTV that Gupta had recently argued with his wife, an Ayurvedic practitioner, over dismissing Meena.
His wife, however, opposed the move, reminding him that the domestic help had cared for his mother during her battle with cancer. Investigators suspect the disagreement may have left Gupta feeling sidelined within the family, allegedly setting off a chain of emotions that culminated in the crime. They are also probing the possibility that an altercation took place between Gupta and Meena shortly before the killing and are examining all possible motives. At the time of the incident, Gupta’s wife was at her nursing home. Police said the accused had been receiving treatment for depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) for almost a decade and had been prescribed antidepressant medication. The couple’s son, who recently passed Class 12, is currently studying law at a university in Greater Noida. The Incident The case came to light around 11.36 am when a resident alerted police that a woman had been murdered on the terrace of a neighbouring building and was lying in a pool of blood. Responding officers reached the scene and found Gupta near the body. A cricket bat and a knife, believed to have been used in the attack, were recovered. Residents and domestic workers in the locality recalled hearing screams from the terrace moments before the incident surfaced.
