'Hang Me': Delhi Doctor After Killing Domestic Help; Mental Health Angle Under Probe Published By, Last Updated: June 19, 2026, 09:03 IST The doctor has been undergoing treatment for depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) for nearly 10 years and has been on anti-depressant medication, police said. Rapid Read Image used for representation Panic and shock swept Delhi’s upscale Mount Kailash area on Thursday morning after a 50-year-old dermatologist allegedly bludgeoned his long-time domestic help with a cricket bat and stabbed her multiple times, killing her on the terrace of his residence. Police identified the accused as Dr Manish Gupta, a practising dermatologist, and the victim as Meena, who had been employed at his home for nearly 15 years. According to a report by Times Of India, Gupta was found sitting on the stairs near the blood-soaked body when a police team reached the spot. He reportedly told the officers, “mujhe fansi do" (Hang me), before being taken into custody. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari said initial investigation indicates that Gupta acted alone and that there is no evidence to suggest the involvement of his son or any other person, contradicting early claims that more than one individual might have been involved.
Police Recovered Bat And Knife From The Scene The incident came to light around 11:36 am when a resident of the colony informed police that a woman had been murdered on the terrace of a neighbouring building and was lying in a pool of blood. “A police team rushed to the spot and found the victim dead. A man in his 50s was also present near the body when they arrived," Tiwari said. The officers apprehended Gupta from the scene and seized a cricket bat and a knife allegedly used in the attack. Police Probe Mental Health Angle, Dismisses Black Magic Speculations During questioning, Gupta allegedly confessed to killing Meena, according to PTI. Investigators are now focusing on his psychiatric history, with officers stating that he has been undergoing treatment for depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) for nearly 10 years and has been on anti-depressant medication. His mental condition and treatment records are being scrutinised to determine whether they played a role in the crime.
Police have also sought to dispel speculation that the killing was linked to superstition. Tiwari said there was no evidence to support claims that the victim was targeted over suspicions of black magic or “negative energy". The line of inquiry is currently centred on Gupta’s prolonged mental health issues. Officers said the exact sequence of events leading up to the murder is still being pieced together, including whether any argument took place before the attack. Locals and domestic workers in the area told police that they heard screams from the terrace shortly before the incident came to light. Residents in nearby towers reportedly noticed a commotion and alerted others after hearing cries for help. Police have clarified that Gupta’s son, who is around 20 years old, has “no involvement" in the incident and is “fully stable". The accused’s wife, an Ayurvedic dermatologist, was not at home when the murder took place, they added. Further investigation is under way.
