During the hearings, the Centre argued that Telegram has become a preferred platform for illegal activities, routinely exploited by criminal groups and terror networks, describing it as the new dark web.
The government maintained its action is event-based, proportionate, and temporary, pointing out Telegram's failure to proactively curb platform misuse. Conversely, Telegram argued that blocking a service used by over 150 million Indians because of the actions of a few bad actors is excessive, unfair, and legally unsustainable.
