The Delhi High Court is set to deliver its verdict on Telegram's plea challenging the central government's temporary ban on the messaging platform following the NEET paper leak. During the hearings, the Centre argued that Telegram has become a preferred platform for illegal activities, routinely exploited by criminal groups and terror networks, describing it as the new dark web.
The government maintained its action is event-based, proportionate, and temporary, pointing out Telegram's failure to proactively curb platform misuse. Conversely, Telegram argued that blocking a service used by over 150 million Indians because of the actions of a few bad actors is excessive, unfair, and legally unsustainable.
