US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding to end military hostilities. Trump signed the deal during a state dinner at the Palace of Versailles in France alongside President Emmanuel Macron, while Pezeshkian signed it digitally from Tehran. The agreement commits both nations to an immediate and permanent end to military operations, including in Lebanon.
However, the deal has sparked immediate backlash in Washington, with congressional Republicans criticising Trump for making major concessions to Tehran. Critics highlight that the MoU fails to secure decisive concessions on Iran's nuclear program, proxy groups, or ballistic missiles, leaving key issues unresolved for a sixty-day negotiation period.
