As rain plays hide and seek, the overall rainfall deficit percentage in Andhra Pradesh increased to 32.8% on Thursday, June 18, with 20 out of 28 districts reporting either deficient or large deficient rainfall. According to information from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), the State received 45.2 mm as against the normal of 67.3 mm between June 1 and June 18.
Except for eight districts โ Kurnool, Anantapur, Nandyal, Sri Sathya Sai, NTR, Bapatla, Guntur and Palnadu โ which have reported either normal or excess rainfall, the remaining 20 districts have reported either deficient or large deficient rainfall. The deficit percentages in the districts of Polavaram, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema and Annamayya have crossed 60%. The North and South Coastal A.P. received good rain on June 17 (Wednesday), with the highest amount being 96.91 mm, recorded in Vepada of Vizianagaram district.
On Thursday, less than 20 stations in the State received light to moderate showers, the highest being 54 mm, recorded in Markapuram district. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said there is a possibility of heatwaves in isolated places of coastal areas on Friday, while hot and humid conditions may prevail across the State on Friday and Saturday. Other areas may see thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and strong winds.
Between June 21 and 25, there may not be much rain in South Coastal A.P. and Rayalaseema, while NCAP may receive light showers, according to the IMDโs weekly forecast.
