Early diagnosis remains the most effective way to improve outcomes in kidney cancer treatment, Hyderabad District Collector Priyanka Ala said while addressing an awareness walk organised by KIMS Hospitals on the occasion of International Kidney Cancer Day on Thursday (June 18).
Speaking to participants, the Collector stressed the need for greater public awareness about various diseases and cancers, noting that kidney cancer is among the fastest-growing cancers globally. She said educating people about the disease, its risk factors, symptoms and the importance of timely screening is crucial for improving survival rates.
Senior consultant urologist K. Seshu Mohan said kidney cancer is often detected at an advanced stage because it may not produce noticeable symptoms during its early phases. He advised people to seek
medical attention if they experience symptoms such as blood in the urine, persistent pain in the lower back or side, an abdominal lump, unexplained weight loss, loss of appetite or prolonged fatigue.
