A fresh political crisis looms in Maharashtra as six out of nine Lok Sabha Members of Parliament from the Shiv Sena UBT faction are prepared to switch sides. The members have reportedly submitted a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker seeking to form a separate group and eventually merge with the rival faction.
This political development follows a similar rebellion in West Bengal, where twenty Members of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress recently split and merged with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India. The mass defections are seen as an attempt to bolster the ruling alliance's numbers in Parliament to secure a two-thirds majority for upcoming constitutional amendment bills.
