The Tamil Nadu Assembly convened for its first session under Chief Minister C. Vijay without the usual confrontations between the state government and the governor
The Tamil Nadu Assembly convened for its first session under Chief Minister C. Vijay without the usual confrontations between the state government and the governor. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar completed his address, highlighting the government's opposition to the Mekedatu dam project and the Education Policy. Meanwhile, the DMK staged protests outside the assembly over women's safety concerns. Inside, a political debate ensued over a white paper released by the TVK government, which alleged massive financial leakages in departments like TANGEDCO during the previous DMK regime.
In other political developments, NDA-backed independent candidate Parimal Nathwani won the Rajya Sabha election in Jharkhand following alleged cross-voting, defeating the Mahagathbandhan candidate. Additionally, the Meteorological Department has further delayed the expected arrival date of the southwest monsoon in Mumbai due to the absence of strong moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea, raising concerns about an impending water crisis in Maharashtra.
