He told police that Rs 6 lakh was meant for his uncle’s medical treatment. The Karnataka Legislative Council election on Thursday ended with the Congress winning five seats and the BJP securing two, but the result also triggered allegations of cross-voting after the final tally showed unexpected vote transfers across party lines.
Congress candidates Vinay Karthik, Tippannappa Kamakanur, B.S. Shivanna, B.K. Hariprasad and P.V. Mohan were elected to the Council, while BJP nominees Raghu Kautilya and Lingaraj Patil also secured seats. JD(S) candidate Govind Raju was defeated after polling 14 votes. The voting pattern has drawn attention from both parties, with BJP leaders indicating that the issue of alleged cross-voting would be taken up with the party leadership. Congress leaders, meanwhile, expressed satisfaction with the outcome and said they had remained confident of victory. According to the final tally, Vinay Karthik emerged as the highest vote-getter with 32 votes.
Tippannappa Kamakanur, Shivanna and Hariprasad secured 30 votes each, while Mohan won with 29 votes. BJP’s Raghu Kautilya also received 29 votes and Lingaraj Patil secured 27 votes.
