Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has described the yesteryear writer P. Kesavadev as a true revolutionary whose writings consistently stood with the poor and the marginalised. Writer Subahsh Chandran and fetal medicine specialist Thankam Subramonian, who won the 22nd P. Kesavadev Awards, are equally praiseworthy, Mr. Satheesan noted. Thankam, who donated a kidney to an anonymous patient, remains a beacon of hope for many, and Mr. Chandran is among the foremost literary voices of the century, said Mr. Satheesan at the award presentation ceremony.
The awards, instituted by the P. Kesavadev Trust, carry a cash prize of ₹50,000 each, a sculpture created by artist B.D. Dethan and a certificate of merit. Mr. Chandran received the P. Kesavadev Literary Award while Dr. Thankam was conferred with the P. Kesavadev Diabscreen Kerala Award. Women and Child Development Minister Bindhu Krishna recalled the late writer’s commitment to social justice and his concern for the underprivileged George Onakkoor, chairman of the P.
Kesavadev Literary Award Committee, delivered the introductory address and spoke on the enduring relevance of P. Kesavadev and his contribution to Malayalam literature. Jyothydev Kesavadev,
founder chairman and managing trustee of the P. Kesavadev Trust, welcomed the guests while Sunitha Jothydev proposed the vote of thanks.
