The Tamil Nadu Assembly session witnessed a political clash as the ruling party released a 120-page white paper on the state's economy, alleging massive financial leakages and scams by the previous government. The ruling party representatives claimed that the state inherited a debt of thirteen lakh crore rupees, pointing to significant financial mismanagement in public sector undertakings like TANGEDCO and transport corporations.
In response, the opposition dismissed the white paper as a diversionary tactic to hide the current government's compromise on state rights, including issues like the Mekedatu dam project and the two-language policy. The opposition also staged a protest in the assembly, wearing badges to demand accountability from the Chief Minister regarding recent law and order issues, specifically highlighting crimes against women and children.
Despite the heated exchanges over state finances and governance, the assembly session marked a departure from the past, with the government and the governor displaying cordiality on the opening day.
