(Source: X/ screenshot taken from a video posted by ANI) West Bengal Minister Udayan Guha, and a known Mamata Banerjee loyalist, came under an egg attack at the hands of a crowd gathered outside a police station in Cooch Behar district on Thursday, PTI reported. At the time of the attack, he was being escorted to a prison van to be produced before a court following his arrest in an ongoing case of extortion.
Guha came under attack at the time of leaving the Dinhata Police Station, locals, quoted in the report, said. His body took hit from several eggs, as he walked towards the van, but his face was shielded by a helmet, much like Trinamool General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee who was the first to have gone through something like this. Reportedly, the crowd had been gathered outside the police station hours before he was supposed to emerge from there. #WATCH | Dinhata, West Bengal: Eggs were thrown, slogans raised against former minister Udayan Guha as he was being produced in the Dinhata Sub-Divisional Court. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which won the recently concluded assembly election in Bengal resoundingly, claimed that its workers in Dinhata had suffered years of political violence when Guha was in power. Opposition activists in the area were subjected to widespread intimidation, attacks, and lootings between 2016 and 2026, claimed a local BJP leader Jibesh Biswas, quoted by PTI. Guha joined the Trinamool Congress in October 2015, a year before the West Bengal assembly election, after quitting the All India Forward Bloc. His father was a veteran Forward Bloc leader – Kamal Guha. Guha became a minister in West Bengal government after Trinamool Congress came to power in 2016. Forward Bloc is the party founded by the famous freedom fighter – Subhash Chandra Bose, who also founded the Azad Hind Fauj. Forward Bloc has been contesting successive West Bengal assembly elections as part of the Left Front.
