Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attend the meeting of the Security Advisers (NSAs) of BRICS countries in New Delhi on June 22-23, China announced on Thursday. The BRICS Security Advisers Meeting is a high-level platform that brings together the NSAs of the 11 BRICS member states to exchange views on key security challenges.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Wang would attend the meeting at the invitation of the organisers and hold discussions with representatives of other BRICS countries on the international security situation, as well as major regional and global issues. Lin said the meeting would also discuss joint responses to traditional and non-traditional security challenges and make preparations for the BRICS Summit scheduled to be held in September. “Amid a transforming and volatile world with many security challenges on the rise, BRICS countries standing at the forefront of the Global South are committed to safeguarding world peace, promoting common development, practising multilateralism and enabling more equitable global governance," Lin said.
He added that China looks forward to strengthening communication and coordination with BRICS members, enhancing political and security cooperation, and contributing to global peace and stability. Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, is expected to meet Security Adviser Ajit Doval during his visit to New Delhi, according to official sources. India holds the rotating presidency of BRICS this year. The bloc comprises Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. The previous BRICS NSA meeting was hosted by Brazil in Brasília last year.
