A pregnancy broke that silence. Police have now arrested 28-year-old Bharat Lal for the alleged rape. Rapid Read Obra Police arrest 28-year-old Bharat Lal in Sonbhadra POCSO case. A 28-year-old man has been arrested in Sonbhadra for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl and threatening her into silence, police said on Thursday. The case came to light only after the survivor was found to be pregnant. The accused has been identified as Bharat Lal, a resident of Bairpur Tola Sagardah, Post Kanhara, which falls under the jurisdiction of Obra Police Station.
According to police, the accused allegedly sexually assaulted the minor and then intimidated her to ensure that she did not disclose the incident to anyone. Speaking on the matter, Obra Police Station Inspector Sadanand Rai said the girl was too frightened to speak out because of the threats made by the accused. She remained silent for a prolonged period and informed her family about the assault only after it was discovered that she was pregnant. Following the disclosure by the survivor, the victim’s family approached Obra Police Station and lodged a formal written complaint against the accused. Based on the complaint, police registered an FIR against Bharat Lal under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police said that the matter was taken up on priority given the serious nature of the offence and the age of the survivor. Acting swiftly under the Mission Shakti campaign, and on the directions of Superintendent of Police, Sonbhadra, Abhishek Verma, a police team was formed to trace the accused. The team arrested Bharat Lal on Thursday morning at 6:05 AM from Gram Parsoi Tola Gadapathar. Officials confirmed that the accused was taken into custody without resistance. Police have stated that further legal action is being taken against the accused in accordance with the law. The case is being investigated under the stringent sections of the BNS and POCSO Act that deal with sexual offences against minors.
