A fresh political controversy has erupted in West Bengal ahead of International Yoga Day 2026. The BJP-led state government, led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, has made participation in Yoga Day events mandatory for government employees and is preparing for a massive event at Kolkata’s Red Road, expected to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Amid the preparations, TMC MP Mahua Moitra questioned why Eid prayers were not allowed on Red Road for a few hours while the same stretch is being closed for several days for Yoga Day arrangements. She also named rebel MPs who have shifted away from the Trinamool Congress and asked them to raise the issue with the government.
