Karumuri Sunil Kumar, son of former Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Minister Karumuri Nageswara Rao, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday (June 18, 2026) in connection with the alleged Andhra Pradesh liquor transport scam. The arrest comes a week after the ED carried out searches on premises linked to Mr. Sunil, his father and other accused in the case.
The agency is investigating alleged irregularities in liquor transportation contracts awarded by the Andhra Pradesh State Beverages Corporation Limited (APSBCL). According to the agency, the case pertains to the alleged manipulation of transportation tenders to favour select firms, resulting in a loss of ₹195.33 crore to the State exchequer.
The agency has alleged that contracts were awarded at inflated rates and extended to benefit a syndicate that generated illegal proceeds. During searches conducted on June 11, the ED seized a luxury vehicle, watches worth ₹94.5 lakh, cash and documents related to financial transactions and properties.
Sunil’s arrest follows the arrest of Raj Kesireddy and former APSBCL managing director D. Vasudeva Reddy in the same case earlier this month. The ED investigation is ongoing.
