Six Shiv Sena UBT Lawmakers Skip Meeting Sparking Split Fears Amid Leadership Threats
A major political crisis has hit the Shiv Sena (UBT) as six of its nine Lok Sabha members of parliament skipped a crucial parliamentary party
A major political crisis has hit the Shiv Sena (UBT) as six of its nine Lok Sabha members of parliament skipped a crucial parliamentary party meeting in Delhi, signalling an imminent split. The absence of the two-thirds majority allows the rebel lawmakers to bypass the anti-defection law, and they are expected to merge with the ruling Democratic Alliance in the coming days.
In response to the mass defection, a senior party leader launched a verbal attack against the rebels. The leadership warned the defectors of public backlash, stating they would require the Indian Army for protection to return to their homes. The party has issued show-cause notices to the absent members, demanding an explanation for their defiance. Currently, the rebel lawmakers remain incommunicado at an unknown location.
Following the conclusion of the Legislative Council voting, a new breakaway faction is set to be officially formed, which will be led by the parliamentarian representing the Parbhani constituency.
