According to India Today, citing officials, the 52-year-old woman had visited a private hospital with a fever on Wednesday.
Considering her recent travel history from South Sudan, authorities alerted the state’s Health Department. The woman was subsequently taken to an isolation ward at Kottayam Medical College for further examination. ‘No Immediate Cause For Concern’ Keralam’s Health Minister K Muraleedharan said that there was no immediate cause for concern, citing the preliminary assessment. However, he stated that test results were awaited. “The patient suspected of having Ebola was shifted to the isolation ward at Kottayam Medical College as soon as symptoms were noticed. The test results have not yet been received. However, according to the Medical Superintendent, there is no immediate cause for concern based on the preliminary assessment," he said, as quoted by India Today.
Officials said test samples had been collected and dispatched to a laboratory to determine whether the woman had caught Ebola symptoms. The outcomes are awaited. At present, there are no confirmed cases of Ebola in India. In May, Union Health Minister JP Nadda reviewed preparedness and surveillance measures for Ebola disease. Ebola Outbreak The latest outbreak of Ebola –– confirmed on May 15 –– was reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the World Health Organisation (WHO) declaring the event a public health emergency. The United States government has also imposed a temporary ban on the entry of people without U.S. passports, who have recently travelled to Congo, Uganda or South Sudan.
The current outbreak was triggered by the Bundibugyo virus, a rare type of Ebola that has no vaccines or approved medicines to cure it.
