With the onset of the southwest monsoon, Vizianagaram district received good rain on Thursday (June 18, 2026) morning. The rain, which began at 9.15 a.m. and continued till 11 a.m., brought much-needed relief to farmers and to people who had suffered through temperatures touching 40 degrees Celsius until the first week of June.
The downpour cooled the weather in Vizianagaram, bringing the temperature down to 28 degrees Celsius. Over the past fortnight, the day temperature had hovered between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius. Farmers are hopeful of decent rain in the district despite the effect of El Nino, which is expected to reduce rainfall this monsoon season.
Vizianagaram Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy directed officials to take relief measures for the agriculture sector, in line with the guidelines of the government, which had
sent a detailed note on El Nino preparedness and an action plan to mitigate its impact.
