(AFP photo) Bangladesh’s viral blond-haired buffalo nicknamed “Donald Trump", which became an internet sensation for its striking resemblance to the US president, is now set to be sacrificed during Eid al-Adha, with its caretaker saying he will deeply miss the animal. The rare albino buffalo from Narayanganj, near Dhaka, drew huge crowds and flooded social media feeds over the past few weeks as visitors travelled long distances to see the unusual animal with its flowing blond hair and calm nature.

Owner and caretaker Zia Uddin Mridha told AFP that the buffalo had become far more than just another farm animal during the months he cared for it. “I am going to miss Donald Trump, but that is the core spirit of Eid al-Adha — making a sacrifice," he said. Internet Star Before Eid The nearly 700-kilogram buffalo earned its nickname because of the tuft of blond hair falling across its forehead, which many believed resembled Donald Trump’s trademark hairstyle. Visitors continued arriving at the farm daily to take photographs and videos with the animal, turning it into one of Bangladesh’s biggest Eid crowd-pullers this year. Mridha said the buffalo needed extra care and was bathed four times a day to keep it healthy.

However, the constant attention and growing crowds reportedly caused the buffalo to lose weight, forcing the farm to limit public access. Officials from the livestock department said albino buffaloes are extremely rare in Bangladesh due to their lack of melanin, which gives them a white or pink appearance. Despite its popularity, the buffalo has already been sold for sacrifice ahead of Eid al-Adha, one of the most important festivals in the Islamic calendar. “It needed extra attention and care every day. The buffalo has already been delivered to a customer for sacrifice during Eid," Mridha told Reuters. During the festival, millions of livestock animals are sacrificed across Bangladesh, where many poorer families get a rare opportunity to eat meat.
