Leaders of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) Employees’ Unions JAC on Wednesday (June 17, 2026) opposed the Andhra Pradesh government’s plan to run electric buses through private operators and to lease RTC lands to private entities. A meeting of the APSRTC Employees’ JAC was held in Vijayawada under the leadership of Vijayawada zone JAC leaders Y.S. Rao and Adapa Rama Rao, and chaired by Employees’ Union zonal president G.
Chiranjeevi. The unions demanded that the APSRTC buy and operate the electric buses itself, recruit 10,000 employees, add 4,000 buses, clear pending employee dues, announce Interim Relief (IR), constitute the 12th Pay Revision Commission (PRC), and settle retirees’ arrears. The leaders said the APSRTC management should use the incentives and subsidies provided by the Central government for electric buses and buy the buses directly through the corporation, so that they were operated by RTC employees.
They accused the government and the management of trying to hand over not only electric bus operations but also valuable depot lands to private operators through lease arrangements, without considering the views of the employee unions. The JAC leaders announced red-ribbon protests on June 23 and 24, and a review meeting on June 28. They warned of Statewide protests if the government did not address the demands.
The meeting was attended by JAC conveners Y. Srinivasa Rao (NMUA) and G.V. Narasayya (EU); co-conveners P.V. Ramana Reddy (NMUA), M.D. Prasad (EU), C.H. Sundarayya (SWF), S.K. Jilani (SWF), S.V. Seshagiri Rao (KP), Y. Srinivasa Rao (KP) and K.S.P. Rao (United Workers), among others.
