The cleric who was wanted in an alleged conversion case involving the wife of an Indian Air Force official in Nagpur, has been arrested after being on the run for several days, officials said. The accused, identified as Hazrat Maulana (38), a resident of Tamia in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district, surrendered on Wednesday night. A police team from Nagpur had travelled to Tamia and spent three days searching for the cleric, who will be produced before a court later today.
Read Full Story Despite extensive efforts, officers were unable to trace him. Late on Wednesday night, however, Maqsood arrived at the police station and surrendered before the authorities. Two accused in the case โ the woman's former classmate, Ayyaz Taj Madare and Ameen Sheikh โ have already been arrested. The case, stemming from an incident that allegedly occurred nearly a year ago, came to light after the woman lodged a police complaint on June 13 and a video purportedly showing the alleged conversion process surfaced online.
In the video, the woman is allegedly seen resisting and pleading to be let go, while Madare appears to hold her hands as religious verses are recited over her.. The complainant has alleged that she was forcibly converted during the incident and that an attempt was later made to rapee her. She further claimed that she was lured into a relationship by the accused, subjected to abuse, and subsequently pressured to change her faith.
According to her complaint, compromising videos were later used to blackmail, threaten and extorted of lakhs of rupees. Ends
