Ahead Of Schools Reopening, UP Govt Draws Plan To Improve Learning Through PM POSHAN Published By Last Updated: June 18, 2026, 09:45 IST Uttar Pradesh issues action plan to strengthen PM POSHAN in schools, ordering safety, hygiene, kitchen gardens and fire preparedness to ensure nutritious meals from reopening day Yogi Adityanath-led UP government has drawn up plans to enhance learning outcomes through the PM POSHAN scheme. (Representational image) Ahead of the opening of schools after summer vacation, the Uttar Pradesh government has drawn up an action plan to ‘strengthen the arrangements’ under the flagship PM-POSHAN, which was until 2021 called the Mid-Day Meal Scheme. The Yogi Adityanath-led UP government is giving ‘top priority to not only education but also the health, nutrition and secure future of the children’, the government said.
In order to ensure that children receive quality, safe, and nutritious food right from day one of school reopening, the Prem Ranjan Singh, Director of the Mid-Day Meal Authority, has instructed all districts in the state to make arrangements related to food grain availability, kitchen cleanliness, drinking water, fire safety, and meal preparation in advance. “No laxity of any kind will be tolerated in matters related to the health and welfare of children," he said. The scheme is not only a food distribution programme but is also viewed as an important medium for improving children’s health and nutrition levels, increasing school attendance and improving learning outcomes. The focus is on ensuring strict compliance with the prescribed standards. The guidelines require all essential ingredients for the preparation of food as per the prescribed menu to be present in schools before their reopening.
The government is also according the highest priority to cleanliness in the process – from preparation to its distribution, the government claimed in a press release. From the removal of cobwebs in and out of the kitchen to maintaining hygiene around the handpumps that children will use, the UP government intends to leave no stone unturned. Instructions have also been issued to ensure the availability of fire extinguishers in every school. The cooks will even be trained in the use of the firefighting equipment, the release said. The plan also includes reinvigorating the kitchen gardens in schools where they exist and to develop new ones where there are none. This should promote the use of locally grown vegetables in the meals of children.
