Inside Latest RSS-BJP Huddle: Tawde, Shivraj, Bansal & Chugh In Focus For Key Organisational Roles Reported By, Last Updated: June 18, 2026, 07:00 IST While organisational assignments formed part of the discussion, the larger conversation is understood to have focused on the BJP’s political messaging and mobilisation strategy The latest deliberations, however, indicate that the Sangh may be advocating a recalibration, one that seeks to combine electoral strategy with stronger ideological messaging. File pic/PTI A significant organisational exercise appears to be underway within the BJP following a recent coordination meeting, held on Monday in Delhi, between the party’s top leadership and senior-most RSS functionaries. While no formal decisions have been announced, discussions are learnt to have included possible new responsibilities for several key leaders, as well as the party’s broader political direction ahead of the upcoming elections in five states.
According to sources familiar with the deliberations, BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde is likely to be entrusted with responsibilities relating to Punjab and Uttarakhand. Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is also being considered for a larger role in Uttar Pradesh, a state that remains central to the BJP’s political calculations ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. Sources further indicate that Sunil Bansal, widely regarded as one of the BJP’s most effective organisational strategists, may continue to oversee parts of Uttar Pradesh while also playing a substantial role in Manipur. general secretary Tarun Chugh is expected to emerge as an important coordinating link between the organisation and the central leadership as the restructuring process gathers momentum. A Strategic Conversation Beyond Appointments The meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the party’s national president Nitin Nabin, national general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh, national general secretary Vinod Tawde, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, among others.
Representing the RSS were Dattatreya Hosabale, general secretary of the organisation, and Arun Kumar, joint general secretary, along with other functionaries. While organisational assignments formed part of the discussion, the larger conversation is understood to have focused on the BJP’s political messaging and mobilisation strategy. Sources suggest that senior RSS functionaries emphasised the need to sharpen ideological outreach and reconnect with the party’s core support base. In particular, Dattatreya Hosabale is learnt to have stressed greater focus on Hindutva-centred mobilisation and social engagement, while cautioning against excessive dependence on caste-based political calculations. The discussion assumes significance because, in the aftermath of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, some sections within the BJP increasingly focused on caste equations and social engineering to navigate changing political realities in several states.
