A 16-year-old boy was killed after the motorcycle he was riding allegedly crashed into a road divider and fell from a flyover in the early hours of Tuesday within the jurisdiction of the Mahadevapura Traffic Police Station. The deceased has been identified as Lawrence, 16, son of Ravi Embu and a resident of KR Puram’s Ayyappanagar.
According to the police, Lawrence left home at around 2.50 a.m. on a two-wheeler. While travelling from Tin Factory towards Kasturinagar on the Outer Ring Road bypass, he allegedly lost control of the motorcycle, which rammed into a road safety barrier. The impact reportedly threw him off the flyover from a height of about 15 feet, causing him to crash onto the road median below and sustain critical injuries.
Passersby rushed the injured boy to a nearby hospital and alerted the police. The Mahadevapura Traffic Police visited the accident spot and later shifted him to another hospital for advanced treatment. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. Preliminary investigation suggests that over-speeding and reckless riding may have led to the accident. Police said Lawrence’s parents informed investigators that they were unaware he had taken the vehicle from home.
Officials added that a case will also be registered against the owner of the vehicle, as the deceased was a minor.
