A TMC office in Howrah was set on fire by the locals. Amid internal turmoil, the Trinamool Congress’s office in Howrah’s Domjur assembly constituency was set on fire on Wednesday by locals after several luxury items were reportedly found in the premises. Public anger boiled over in Howrah’s Domjur assembly constituency today as furious locals set fire to a Trinamool Congress party office located along Highway 16 in the Nibra area.
The incident occurred after luxury items, including beds, sofas, and refrigerators, were found inside the premises. Locals alleged that illegal activities had been running under the guise of a party office for a long time. Driven to the edge by prolonged police inaction despite repeated complaints, the public on Wednesday took matters into their own hands and torched the structure. Earlier in the day, TMC was asked to vacate the building, which was known as ‘Trinamool Bhavan’, located on the EM Bypass Road in the Topsia area. It was being used as a temporary office by Trinamool because its original office, also in Topsia, was being renovated. The owner Montu Saha, and his son Amit Shah, sought help from the police to get the building vacated.
They have requested the Mamata Banerjee-led party to vacate the premises within two months. Their reason for asking the party to leave soon is the post-poll violence that Bengal witnessed after June 4, when TMC lost to the Bharatiya Janata Party resoundingly. Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has asked TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee to meet him on June 19 after he urged him not to recognise any other bloc as the Trinamool Congress. On Sunday, a letter dated June 10, Banerjee had requested the Speaker not to accord any recognition, status or facility to any group claiming to be a separate faction of the party. The hearing comes after rebel TMC leaders sought recognition as a separate parliamentary group after their merger with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI).
