Mysuru restobar fire: Five Excise officials suspended

Five Excise Department officials from the Mysuru Sub-Division, including the Deputy Superintendent, have been suspended in connection with the fire mishap at the rooftop bar and restaurant in Dattagalli, Mysuru, that claimed two lives and left seven persons injured on Monday (June 15). A statement here said the officials had been suspended for their failure to inspect and detect violations at the rooftop establishment, constructed with dry grass and thatch.
It was operating without obtaining the required permission, the statement added. The officials were blamed for “dereliction of duty” and their “failure to inspect and detect the violations”. The Excise Department officials, including the Excise Inspector of Mysuru Range-3, Excise Sub-Inspector-1, Excise Sub-Inspector-2, and an Excise Constable (Beat Constable), have been suspended with immediate effect.
The suspension order was issued by the Excise Commissioner, Bengaluru, against all five officials, said the statement. It may be mentioned here that Minister for Urban Development Yathindra Siddaramaiah, who
visited Mysuru on Tuesday (June 16) in the wake of the fire mishap, said the restobar was operating without a licence and recommended the suspension of the Excise Department officials.
